Finance Assistant

Job Description

Full-Time, Exempt (40 hours per week, includes weekends)

Reports to: Associate Executive Director

Summary of Role

Under the Direction of the Associate Executive Director, the finance assistant will lead the advancement of our finance department through strategic planning, assessment and execution of budgets, and processes. You will have a hand in meticulously stewarding the generosity of those who give to Emmanuel Church.  

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in managing the Church’s budgeting and forecasting activities 
  • Work in collaboration with the outside CPA to ensure all necessary tasks are completed
  • Assist the annual budget process 
  • Assist APs/ARs
  • Develop budgetary policies and guidelines to meet organizational goals 
  • Monitor and provide analysis of actual results against budget 
  • Consolidated financial reports for Emmanuel 
  • Provide budget vs actual reports for all budget owners, in a timely manner
  • Assist in the collection of key metrics for ministry leaders, senior management, and the elders
  • Monitor metrics to identify trends and provide decision support 
  • Assist with monthly, year-end close and annual review preparation

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A champion of the vision of Emmanuel Church
  • Two years’ experience in accounting
  • Degree in Accounting, Math, Finance, or related field
  • Attention to detail with strong analytical and critical thinking skills 
  • Flexibility and ability to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously 
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel 
  • Love working on a team as much as you love working with the numbers 
  • Demonstrate a servant heart with spiritual maturity and sensitivity
  • Demonstrate confidentiality and discretion when handling personal and ministry information
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience in conflict resolution
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational/administrative skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of a team in a flexible and cooperative
